TV size calculator for your viewing distance
Measure from where your eyes are when you sit to where the screen will be, then enter it here. The right size depends on that distance and on how much of your view you want the picture to fill.
Everyday watching: about 61 inches, so look at 55" or 65" TVs.
Cinema feel: about 82 inches, so look at 75" or 85" TVs.
At 250 cm, Full HD pixels blend on screens up to about 63 inches. On bigger screens Full HD starts to show its pixels, so 4K can look sharper.
How this is worked out
"Everyday" fills about 30° of your view, the minimum SMPTE recommends; "cinema feel" fills about 40°, the figure THX recommends. The screen width for an angle is 2 × distance × tan(angle ÷ 2), turned into a 16:9 diagonal. The 4K line uses the same one-arcminute limit of 20/20 vision as the monitor sharpness calculator. These are geometry, not taste: bigger than "cinema" can still suit you, and a room's layout often decides.
At a glance
| Eyes to screen | Everyday (30°) | Cinema (40°) |
|---|---|---|
| 150 cm | 36" | 49" |
| 200 cm | 48" | 66" |
| 250 cm | 61" | 82" |
| 300 cm | 73" | 99" |
| 350 cm | 85" | 115" |
Before you buy, also check the TV's VESA wall-mount pattern against your bracket, or the stand's width against your table. TVs are coming to kharidwise later.
