Desk and chair height calculator
Your overall height is a rough guide: leg and arm lengths can differ between people of the same height. Two measurements with a tape take a minute and give your own numbers.
Measure
- Back of the knee: sit with your usual shoes on, feet flat and thighs level. Measure from the floor to the crease behind your knee.
- Elbow above the seat: sit upright with your upper arms relaxed and elbows bent to about 90°. Measure from the seat to the underside of your elbow.
How this is worked out
The seat goes at the height of the back of your knee, so your feet rest flat and the seat's front edge does not press under your thighs. The desk or keyboard goes at your elbow, so your forearms rest level and your shoulders stay relaxed. This is the common office-ergonomics rule of thumb; nothing here estimates from your overall height.
