Buying an office chair online: what to check

By Sujeet Singh · Updated 2026-10-02

You cannot sit in a chair you buy online. You can check the few numbers that decide whether it will fit you, and many listings do not state them. On kharidwise, a few of the chairs state all three: the seat-height range, the user heights it suits and a weight rating.

1. Measure yourself first

Two tape measurements decide the seat height and desk height that suit your body. The desk and chair height calculator turns them into the numbers to look for, and tells you what to do if your desk height is fixed.

2. Check what the listing states

Weight ratingThe most the chair is rated to hold. Choose one comfortably above your weight.More than half

A missing number is an answer in itself: you would be guessing. Paste any listing, from any store, into the listing checker to see which of these it states.

3. Read the warranty and returns line

Read what the warranty covers, not only how long it lasts. If the listing does not state a warranty, ask before you pay. Check the store's return window too, since it is the only way to undo a chair that does not fit.

4. Ask the seller for anything missing

The chair finder checks each chair against your height, weight and budget, marks every number the listing leaves out as “Not published”, and writes a polite question for the seller with one click, ready to paste into the listing's questions or the seller chat.

Quick checklist

  1. Measure: get your seat and desk height from the calculator.
  2. The seat-height range reaches your seat height.
  3. The user-height range includes your height.
  4. The weight rating is comfortably above your weight.
  5. The warranty says what it covers, and you know the return window.
  6. Anything missing: ask the seller before you buy.
